Description
The Life and Times of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt is book written by Egyptologist, Arthur Weigall, first published in 1914. It is a biography of the legendary Queen Cleopatra, who ruled Egypt from 51 to 30 BC. A member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, she was a descendant of its founder Ptolemy I Soter, a Macedonian Greek general. Starting with a study of the character of Cleopatra, the book goes on to explore her early years, the arrival of Caesar in Egypt and the subsequent birth of the Egypt-Roman monarchy, and then goes on to her alliance with Mark Antony, and their rise and subsequent decline in power. Throughout the book, Weigall examines the political and social climate of ancient Egypt and Rome, as well as the power struggles between the two empires.
