Hideki tojo born

Hideki Tojo was born in Kojimachi District Tokyo, Japan to the Japanese Army infantry Lieutenant Hidenori Tojo on December 30, 1884.

After graduating from the Imperial Military Academy and the Military Staff College, Tojo was sent to Berlin as Japan’s military attache after World War I. (1915)

In five years Hideki Tojo is promoted to rank of Major. (1920)

In four years he is promoted to Lieutenant-colonel. (1924)

In another four years he is promoted to Full Colonel. (1928)

In one year he becomes the commander of the 1st infantry Regiment in Tokyo. (1929)

In five years becomes the commander of the 24th Infantry Brigade.

Then becomes Kwantung Army's Chief of staff in 1937. Tojo's first combat experience was later this year when he led two brigades on operations in inner Mongolia.

Tojo saw the military occupation of Chinese Territory as necessary to force the Nationalist CHinese government to collaborate with Japan. He continued to advocate expansion of the conflict in CHina and became the armies vice minister when he returned ot japan. (1938)

Tojo pushed for alliance with Germany and Italy and in October 1941 he became Prime Minister. December of this year Tojo gave the final call to allow attacks of the US, Great Britain, and the Dutch East Indies which brought them into WWII.

As WWII went on Japan's losses grew to immense numbers and Tojo tried to bring all of Japan's power into his own hands. He served as both prime minister and army minister at the same time. Tojo had control to everything in Japan from home affairs to education to foreign affairs. In February of 1944 he even assumed direct command of army operations as Army General Staff, however was forced from power. (1944)

Japan's surrender the next year caused major problems for Hideki and when threatened to be arrested Hideki tried to kill himself. However he survived and was nursed back to health to confront a proper trial. (1945)

Hideki Tojo was tried and hanged on December 23, 1948.  He was convicted of being a war criminal. (1948)
